Women In Focus: Zine Making and the Gender Gap with Round Lemon
Thursday 19 January, 2023
Have you ever contemplated our collection through a feminist lens? In January 2023, Round Lemon took us on a journey through art history as they broached the subject of the gender gap and addressed how Women artists are represented in art galleries.
This evening event included a short discovery tour inspired by Women artist icons in the Barber’s collection, followed by guided zine making and discussion around the gender gap in the arts. By looking at the ground-breaking works of artists such as Maria Tassaert, Elizabeth Vigée LeBrun, Marguerite Gérard, and Tess Jaray, we discovered new perspectives and attitudes on art made by Women displayed in traditional art spaces.
We encouraged attendees to unleash their feminist voice through collage, as we made responses to our discussions in solidarity.
Work made at this event has been transformed into a digital zine edit, that can to be used as a resource in the galleries to explore Women artists and our approach to thinking about the Gender Gap in gallery spaces.
