Our galleries are at the mouth of a campus that welcomes over 38,000 students each year. Our team collaborates with departments and schools across the University to support a range of student opportunities and placements.
Medical and Dental Sciences
With students from the University of Birmingham’s Pharmacy and Medicine and Surgery departments, we have supported numerous final-year elective placements undertaking valuable and collaborative research as part of Barber Health.
By giving students insight and hands-on experience in arts, health and wellbeing projects, we hope to prepare healthcare professionals of tomorrow for their future careers in society.
Through research and active participation, they gain insight into the role of cultural institutions and how we engage audiences to support them in their everyday lives.

Being a Pharmacy student at the University of Birmingham with the Barber Institute located right on our campus, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to utilise the resources available to us to help achieve this!
I wanted to take part in this elective placement to prove to society that there are other ways to improve health and wellbeing, rather than just relying on medication.
