Matthew Pagett
Imagine a net so wide it catches not just people and places but also their thoughts, feelings and histories. Imagine that net cast over campus…
Our artist-in-residence, Matthew Pagett, was asked to respond to our recent exhibition about early-20th-century New York artist George Bellows – and in particular the illustrations Bellows made as a student for calendars and yearbooks of The Ohio State University.
Since October, Pagett has been documenting the University’s staff and student communities, its academic, social and sporting activities, its cultures and traditions, picking over his findings, drawn like a magnet to the mysterious Karen Lodge. He presents his findings in word and image as an academic calendar that sits somewhere between the digital and the analogue.
