Join the Barber Art Challenge

While our galleries are closed for building improvements, we’re inviting YOU to get creative! Take inspiration from our world-class collection and respond to monthly prompts for a chance to win amazing art prizes from Cass Art – worth over £75! Share your work, get featured on our social media, and join a vibrant community of budding artists.

How to submit your artwork

  • Email a JPEG or PNG file of your artwork to [email protected] before the monthly deadline with the subject line ‘Barber Art Challenge’.
  • Title your file: Your Name, Theme (e.g., Joe Bloggs, Plants).
  • If under 18, include your age – children are judged separately.
  • Include your social media handles if you’d like to be tagged.
  • Artwork must be in a medium that can be accurately shown in a 2D image (no video/audio).

    • November – Animals | Deadline: Sun 30 Nov
    • December – Objects | Deadline: Wed 31 Dec

2026 Monthly themes and deadlines

    • January – Buildings | Deadline: Sat 31 Jan
    • February – Weather | Deadline: Sat 28 Feb
    • March – Light and dark | Deadline: Tue 31 March
    • April – Shapes| Deadline: Thur 30 April
    • May – Food and drink | Deadline: Sun 31 May
    • June – Emotions | Deadline: Tue 30 June

How winners are chosen

  • Our team will shortlist artworks that best respond to the theme.
  • Shortlisted works will be featured on our Instagram and Facebook – @BarberInstitute
  • One winner and one runner-up will be selected in each age category (under 18 and over 18).
  • Winners will be contacted via email and asked for a postal address to receive their prize.

What are the prizes?

  • Over 18s: Art materials goody bag worth over £75, plus a runner-up prize.
  • Under 18s: Special children’s art prize, plus a runner-up prize.
  • All prizes are generously provided by our partners, Cass Art.

Terms

  • One entry per person per month.
  • Entries must be submitted via the artist’s (or parent/carer’s) email.
  • Image files must be JPG, JPEG, or PNG.
  • Title your file: Name, Age (if under 18), Theme
  • Images must be high-resolution and taken square-on.
  • By submitting your image, you agree to it appearing on the Barber Institute’s social media channels, website, and any future promotional materials for the Barber Art Challenge
  • Please note we are only able to send prizes to postal addresses in the UK.
