Fauré’s chamber music masterpieces are centre stage for this all-star concert led by eminent Canadian violinist James Ehnes. The much-loved Op.15 quartet is an exquisitely crafted work: romantic, passionate, and luxurious in texture. This is followed by the Op.45 quartet, which makes a bolder move away from the classical tradition, both harmonically and structurally. Though considered less popular than the Op.15 quartet, it is undoubtedly one of the pinnacles of the composer’s chamber music.
