Online Talk and Workshop: First Impressions

Jon Sleigh: reading visible difference in art for body positivity

Tuesday 9 November, 6 – 7.30pm

Free; online via Zoom; booking essential

Can we tell a story of first impressions by bringing four artworks together?

In the second part of this series, Arts Educator Jon Sleigh reframes four pieces from the Barber’s collection to explore the first impressions we might take from different prints, paintings and sculpture of the human body.

Beauty can and is found in many different forms – let’s challenge assumptions together and celebrate visible difference. How do we read and react to these artworks as a viewer? What are our expectations when we confront the human form in a gallery?

In this workshop, we are able to bring together artworks never seen alongside each other in the Barber’s physical galleries, using the online space to curate our own conversations around body positivity.

All levels and abilities are welcome.

This workshop will be hosted via Zoom; available to anyone, 18+.

We look forward to bringing our collection to your place.

Donations are welcome and can be made during the booking process and via contactless Goodbox stations in the Barber. Your donations support our learning programmes and paid internships for early-career professionals. Thank you.
