Barber Drawing Challenge

Put pen (or pencil, paint, stick of charcoal - whatever you have to hand) to paper for the #BarberDrawingChallenge!

Inspired by the great artists in our major summer exhibition, we'll be suggesting a new theme every Thursday during July and August to get the creative juices - and the ink - flowing and encourage you to start Making a Mark or two. Find the themes below.

Whether it's a doodle on an envelope or a sketchbook masterpiece, we'd love to see what you come up with.

Share your drawings with us -

Our favourites will be shared each week (with permission) on this page and on social media. We'll also choose a winner who'll be the recipient of a drawing-inspired prize.

All ages are welcome; no experience needed - we invite you to awaken your inner artist and have a go!

The challenge

It's the final week - and we challenge you to... be inspired by nature!

In this brilliant drawing, Dutch artist Jan Lievens depicts the beauty of the landscape. You can almost hear the wind blowing through the trees...

This week, we’d love to see your drawings of the natural world – perhaps it’s the sky you see from your window, birds visiting your garden, a houseplant on the shelf, or something you spot out and about.

Here's some texture inspiration from Mengxia Liu - how can you use different lines to create your drawing?
