Nocturnes: Ethereal Science / Constructing Beauty

Encounter exciting and radical new ideas combining arts and science.

Inspired by Naum Gabo’s sculpture, ‘Linear Construction in Space No. 1’, discover the wonders of the universe with Infinite Opera, uncover innovative research from the University of Birmingham, and take part in an artist-led workshop.

Gabo, a Russian sculpture and painter, was an engineer by training. He was at the forefront of the avant-garde and used materials like nylon to create illusions – he wanted his creations to ‘appeal more to our minds and our feelings than to our crude physical senses’.

Infinite Opera are a Birmingham-based opera troupe creating new works to explain and describe the universe through the medium of opera.
