Period instrument ensemble, In Echo, look back to the beginnings of printed music – and the publication of Ottaviano Petrucci’s collection Harmonice Musices Odhecaton – in Venice in 1501. This collection of 96 pieces of exquisite contrapuntal music includes works by composers such as Josquin, Japart, Compère, Isaac and Agricola, which together signalled a revolution in the use and dissemination of music. In Echo take a fresh look at this repertoire, presenting it using some of the colourful instruments known to have been used in Venetian ensembles at this time.
