I Fagiolini: Flaming Heart

Wednesday 22 March 7.30pm

I Fagiolini: Flaming Heart

On the 450th anniversary of his birth, a programme to celebrate Monteverdi’s unique expressive genius – as powerful now as in 17th century Italy.  Monteverdi specialists, I Fagiolini, bring to life a ravishing selection of his music: from his life in Mantua, the passionate madrigals that gave birth to his first opera, L’Orfeo, and then a staged performance of its powerful messenger’s scene.  Then, from Venice, a rarely heard dance suite, erotic miniatures and finally a ‘firework’ from the famous collection ‘Madrigals of war and love’, pushing the boundaries of expression.

Programme includes:
L’Orfeo  Act II
Madrigals from Book IV
Hor che’l ciel e la terra
Chiome d’oro
Zefiro torna
Ballo – Tirsi e Clori
